From nought to five hundred in six seconds

Wow, I can’t believe I’ve written five hundred blog posts to date, it feels like seconds ago when I first started. And to think I didn’t know what to write about when I first began! 🙂

And in celebration, I’ve included this watercolour entitled “Sex on legs”  to mark the friendships I’ve made through blogging, plus its a very sexy painting of a very desirable woman – the lovely American Cherrie from the Sensuous Libertine blog dancing her way across the room, her feather boa sensuous against her skin, her black had pulled over her face as she gyrates against the wall, dancing to her own sexual beat. I’ve always loved this painting, and loved painting it of her a few years ago.

This week has been inspirational to me mostly cos the sun has shone, the first spring green and vibrant red buds in the garden are starting to form , the daffodils are showing their spring glory, and I cut the grass for the first time this year, not particularly because it was long and straggly,  just because I knew it would make me feel better to do it, and the garden look neater to have it done when I look out at it from my studio window. And I find the smell of newly mown grass most, well, er, appealing, almost to the point of erotic.

I’ve spent most of the last couple of days framing pictures for the new venue I’m going to be hanging work at – more about the details of it when I’ve got the pictures there. It’s been quite a task to get the pictures in their mounts, and put them in the newly sprayed gold frames, the glass cleaned up inside and out, and the backing boards put back on, the metal pins re-inserted to hold them in place, then masking tape to seal it all up. I quite like framing pictures for clients but don’t go as far as making the frames, there’s no need, I have an excellent framer who can do it for me far quicker and easier than I could do it. But I’m happy enough to assemble a painting into its frame for a client, and love the be the first to see the finished effect, ready to hang on the wall.

But now that job is done, I’m back to painting pictures, new ones, for the remaining frames, since some of the artwork is prints, some drawings, and some paintings. All erotic though. Its the paintings bit I’m working on now, and the carnival masked three heads in particular being the first one. And its oh so sexy I’m loving it! The other day when I left it it wasn’t quite going the way I wanted it, but today it certainly is, I’m happy with the colours, the way the three people are interacting, and the way it’s starting to look sexy with movement and intrigue in it. Yay! Mowing the lawn obviously helped (and I say that in all seriousness! Fresh air and some exercise always make me feel loads better, gets the creative juices going, gives me more energy, and speeds the painting process up hugely, that and loud rock or club music does the trick). I want this painting to have lots of oomph (technical word!) in it, some drama, some strong colours, and some gleaming lights and ….. shiny. Its starting to pull together in that direction although it needs a few more hours work on it yet. But the overriding colours with be gold,  deep rich purple, black, with highlights of fuchsia and red. All good carnival colours. I’m excited about it and can’t wait to see it finished and in its gold frame. Its funny, that even though its me painting it, I’m not e.x….a….c..t..ly sure how it will look when its complete – I bet you think that’s daft, but because I do SO much thinking about it whilst I’m painting it, I’m not totallysure how the thinking process will go to off in various tangents as to what thoughts I’ll incorporate in the picture. I have a basic idea of course,I know which figures are in it, what they’re doing, the colours, the darks and lights, the composition and tones, its just the extra bits, the bits that make the painting more interesting, more exciting, more fun! Its like baking  a cake I suppose, I know what ingredients are going in it, how it will be baked, and what it will taste like, its just that I haven’t decided which icing, or sprinkles, or chocolate curls, or candied fruit, or gold dusting to put on the top, not yet.

Exciting, isn’t it?
