I wanted to do a quirky painting of two sisters, and their shared memory of something that was important just to them… and that made me consider that it would have to be a place where they both had lived which would make it more poignant.
I wanted to depict a castle in the air, and sky, and water, and I had a title before I even started painting the picture ‘The sisters of faded dreams’ (which is unusual, sometimes I have a vague working painting idea for a title, but as I get painting it evolves to something more appropriate…)
The two sisters are of different heights, as I knew it would be a vertical painting and that adds to the quirkiness of the painting. They both have flowers in their hair, and some of the petals have flown off in the wind, giving a feeling of movement to the painting. They’re standing in water in the foreground, its certainly a quirky fantasy painting!!
Its taken some weeks to paint it, and I was hoping to get it finished in time for Christmas, even though its for me, I wanted to paint it and get it finished in one go ideally, as there’s a lot of fine detail in it, so acrylics was the ideal paint to use. Its painted in acrylics on paper, the image size is 18 x 14 inches.. and I love it..
