I mentioned to my window cleaner last year when he asked if I was busy and I said that I was an artist, and gave him my business card so that he could look at my website.. the next time I saw him I asked if he’s had chance to have a look.. no he hadn’t but would look later on he told me… the next time I saw him I asked if he’d had chance to look, and again he said he hadn’t but would look later on..
Today he came to clean the windows and the first thing he said was ‘I’ve looked at your website, very impressive!’ and I thanked him with a big smile. He then said ‘I like to look at proper art, not Emperors new clothes art!’
I smiled and agreed, ‘Art should look like the artist knows what they’re doing, even if you don’t like the subject. I painted a picture for a woman in Derbyshire earlier on this year, her husband spent three hours in the car to collect it, and hour with me, and another three hours back home and his wife told me that it was worth it, and that’s always good to hear!’
He asked ‘Are you working on anything at the moment?’
‘Yes’, I said, ‘a picture of Guernsey as I love Guernsey!’
After he’d gone, I smiled to myself, I’d not fully explained that I was working from three different photos to capture the one bit that made the scene far more interesting to look at…. this is one of the photos… I’ll wait until the painting is finished before I show you the other photo that makes the image more artistic, with artistic licence of course!
