And can you halve it now

Part of the offer of me advertising in the Blue Bell Hill village newsletter is I get a free advert-editorial in one of the issues. I was offered it for the March one but since I had only just come out of hospital and was feeling very weak and not in a fit state to do anything other than rest and recouperate I asked if I could leave it until April, which I was relieved about when they said yes.

Last week I asked what they wanted me to put in it, and got the reply of business name, type of business, how long I’d been in business, when I moved to the village, what special offers I had for the residents of the village, my aims for the future, contact details, any photos I wanted to include of me or a piece of my art.

I started writing and was happy that I’d got it down to a reasonable amount. Had the weekend thinking about it and fine tuning it, then emailed it off to the woman who edits the newsletter, who said she’d edit it to fit the half page I was allocated. I immediately asked if I could edit it as I knew what was important, and what wasn’t, and she agreed, telling me the font type and size, and that I had to fit the images in that half page too. I realised straight away that it would be approximately half of what I’d already done!! Still, I knew I could do it, and it wasn’t too difficult, although of course the first piece was far more informative than the second!!

I’m Jackie Adshead, I’ve been an artist all of my life and had my first commission at the age of 13, and still work to commission, with over 40 years experience, on a frequent basis. I prefer commissions because the client gets exactly the artwork they want, at the price they want, and I love the challenge of creating unique artwork that makes people happy.

After passing  A-Level art  I explored my own artistic talents by honing my artistic style through experimenting with ideas and colours, studying with many diverse and talented tutors at art workshops, becoming technically proficient and consequently settling on the working method that now guides me through my creative procedures.

As a professional artist I am equally competent in watercolours and oils, although I  currently find acrylics the best medium for my artwork. I also love pencil, and pen and ink.

I have painted many diverse subjects and had my artwork published.

I  have won top awards in local art exhibitions, exhibited around the UK and sold to buyers across the UK, and in USA and Canada. I have paintings hanging in Australia, and China.

I moved from Leicestershire to Blue Bell Hill village with my husband almost 2 years ago, as we fell in love with picturesque Kent and wanted to be closer to the coast. I work from my studio at home. My future ambitions are  to find an independent art gallery in Kent to exhibit more of my work.

The painting featured of me in my studio was a commission I was asked to do to depict the woman as “Mother Nature” and since she came from Kent I included 28 fruit and flowers that Kent is famous for – including hops, cobnuts, apples, grapes, lavender, barley, cherries, rosehips, acorns, roses, poppies, making up her body, and loved the challenge of creating it for the client. She loved it too, knowing she had a unique picture of herself to hang in pride of place on her wall.

I remind everyone that it costs nothing to ask, but if you are considering a piece of art, a special commission, or want to buy something that I may already have in stock to suit a wall in your house, please ask, prices to suit any budget. I can paint anything – people, places, animals, in different styles – for instance contemporary, surreal, fantasy, abstract.  To suit your colour scheme.

I am delighted to offer 25% discount for Blue Bell Hill village residents.

So the same message, just far less of it! Hopefully it should get the message across and lets see what interest it brings from the village.
