I had a little idea for a piece of artwork yesterday, its nice to throw ideas around, and then draw out the two ideas to see which one worked the best..
I drew out the ideas on paper and then over an hour coloured in one, and then the other in opposing contrasting tones of colour, using felt tip pens, and thats helped me to formalise the finished colours and tones for the artwork.
Originally I presumed one would be better than the other.. but now I know it was the other one that was the better option..
And thats the joy of being an artist, knowing that instead of wasting hours working on one piece of artwork, I should be concentrating and working on the other one.
Working drawings are the thought process that opens up the ideas and creativity for the finished piece.
And thats the difference between a professional artist and an amateur..the amateur would have put all their time and creativity into the gut reaction one, then after hours of working on it, wouldn’t have liked it, and would have felt that they were rubbish.
The professional artist knows to try the two options, then work on the one that is the right one, and put all their creative effort into it, and know it will be right…in the end….
I love being a professional artist…
