Lost in the land of purple

Yesterday was a pure arty day….  You’d think that as an artist all days are art days but they’re not, sometimes domesticity or admin or other things make up the day. But yesterday I woke full of plans for the day, which started with me rushing off to PVA the front of my art board, which looked an absolute mess after I’d done it, even though it fascinated me to see the effect it made on the painting, and like most artists I could quite happily spend an hour watching paint (or even paint sealant) dry but reluctantly left it to its own devices. Today when I went to see it again the glue and water mix had totally dried, the water evaporated to leave a soft sheen of protective coating over it, the painting complete ready to be hung in the town.

Then it was on to painting the latest Queynte painting although before I had even started the first preliminary drawing I had a couple of emails and a phone call from a guy who wants me to do a couple of erotic drawings of his wife in a particular style. He originally asked for some specific paper that I knew would be hard for me to find, but when I explained what I had got and how I thought it would be perfect for his drawing he agreed and said it would be perfect. Phew! I like it when I’m in tune with my clients and they agree with my suggestions because they know its for the right reasons and in their best interests. All being well that will be my next commission, and I am delighted to know that he wants a “secret message” put in the drawing, something that only he and his wife will understand. He told me what he wanted and asked if I knew what he meant, and I bemusedly said I knew what it was he wanted me to put within the drawing but didn’t know the importance of it, since it is something that I know as an everyday object, something that doesn’t have any other meaning other than the innocent one that everyone attributes to it. But no, there is a secret meaning to it he explained and when he said what it was it was so obvious that even in the naughty world that I have an insight into, it was something I had never heard of………  its something you’ve seen before and probably have never thought anything of……innocence in everyday objects.

And then, the main purpose of the day, that has been something I’ve been wanted to do for the last couple of weeks. A new painting, a queynte, a fantasy fanny, to go with the others. And this one in a specific colourscheme of purple.Queynte 18 (2) Each and every shade of purple, not like this one I did a few years ago that had a mix of red and blues in it,  and since that is a colour made of two primary colours – blue and red – that means that there are many shades that can be incorporated within that remit. Emperor purple, maroon, pinky purple, dark purple, lavender, lilac, harebell blue, and all shades inbetween. Even with a limited palette there are many colours within the painting, because what matters in a Fantasy Fanny painting is that it is anatomically correct, it just has different colours to the ones you’re expecting. If you held the photo that I’ve worked from up against the painting you’d know it was that fanny in that painting. I’ve just confused the viewer as to what they are looking at. Thats the whole point of the joke that accompanies them! Yesterday and today I’ve worked hard on it and am close to completing it. They always make me happy to do them, they’re fun paintings playing with a lovely concept and vibrant acrylic colours.
