I’ve always loved white blossoming trees and wanted to do a painting of pure white blossom over a round enigmatic dark pond.
I felt that the picture ought to have a white bench below it and that the sky being a pretty shade of pink would show off the white blossom to dramatically good effect.
So that meant that white and pink flowers would add harmony and balance to the painting.
The tree trunk in the picture has a really lovely curve in it, as it leans towards the bench and mimics the curve of the pool below it.
I adore the mystery of the dark green waters of the pool, and in particular the delicate pale blue ripple line that runs across it, breaking up the still surface and adding intrigue as to how deep that water is. I find that water most mesmerising, and a wonderful contrast to the froth of white blossom above it.
I also love the hint of hazy blue conifers in the distance on the left of the picture, they are so vague but distinct as well, adding to the mysterious aspect of this picture, and misty background of the garden beyond this little area. Pale blues and pinks, lilacs and greens add to the foliage behind the main tree and make it appear warmer in the foreground with the pale yellows but far distant and cooler in the background with the cooler colours.
The white bench, the white blossom leaning over, and the white flowers reaching up on the right hand side make the eye follow round the picture, with the dark of the pond in the centre.
Only the water and bench are fully in focus, inviting the viewer to sit awhile and soak up the pretty atmosphere of this enigmatic garden. I used about four photos for the basis of ideas for this painting but there was a lot of artistic licence in this painting to bring it all together as a whole.
Its painted in acrylics on canvas and measures 20 x 20 inches, and the title is “Blossoming moments”, of course!
