Looking for that magic number

I’m wet.

But not in a good way.

Earlier on I went out to my local Tesco, four miles away, and left the house in bright sunshine and bright blue skies. By the time I arrived at the supermarket ten minutes later, it was pouring with rain, torrential pounding bouncing rain. I had the choice of sitting here in the car watching it hammering down, or making a run for it. I chose the latter, dashed into the shop dripping, and spent the rest of visit feeling damp, and cold with it. Not helped at all by the fact that when I reemerged from the shop, it was sunny again!

So, tonight will be a chocolate night, most definitely. Flaming June, and its cold, wet, windy, and miserable. But, thank goodness for the best chocolate in the world – Galaxy, closely followed by Cadburys  Fruit and Nut, and Green & Blacks white chocolate. Heaven in a mouthful. That and wine. 🙂

But, I digress.

I wasn’t planning on talking about the weather, but hey, it seems to be taking over this week. The other thing that is taking over a lot of thought  this week, is planning the hows and wheres of me starting teaching. I know WHERE I want to do it, and how much it will cost me, I know why I want to do it, and near enough HOW I will do it. I’m pretty sure I know how much I will charge each person for a three hour session. The only thing I am missing at the moment is some pupils. I also know the *magic number*, you know, the one that matters – the one that makes it viable and worth doing. Cos, if there aren’t enough people, its not worth even starting it.

But, I’m all ready for this, and all fired up over it.

Because I think it will be a good step forward for me, and plan in time it doing more concentrated art workshops with an erotic twist, since that is my niche market. I also know of a delightful redhead who would be perfect to model for it if she’s willing.  And a suitable guy who would happily model with her, if I ask him. Actually, come to think about it, I know a whole list of suitable guys who would happily model with her for nothing! She’s very sexy, I’ve seen her in action before.

Its just finding that right balance that’s important, and I’ve heard so many artists say it before, that its been etched in my mind for a very long time, and is part of the reason why I haven’t started doing art classes before now.

If you spend too much time teaching, you don’t do your own art.

And I don’t want to stop doing that. I want to run it along side my own art, not let it take over.

Mmmmm….. its all starting to slot into place, I just need some willing participants who want the experiences I’m offering….

And to cheer me up from this dire weather, I’ll show you this picture – its called “The life of an artist explained” which sums up what I consider my life is like (the eye and artists hand in the middle) – painting castles in the air for people, full of poignant emotions (the theatre masks)  working night and day (sun and moon),  looking to save enough money to retire by the sea (bag of money, deckchir, sand, shell, fishes), as time ticks on (hour glass full of blood), and there is always the unanswered questions (question mark next to the tangled threads)I have to work through to find how I’m going to fit all the pieces of the jigsaw (jigsaw pieces, to state the obvious) together.  But the hot air balloons and butterflies and flags flying show that I’m positive and buoyant with it all, and the bright colours prove it! I’ve always loved this picture, and won’t sell the original. I love the colourful and upbeat sentiments in it, which is why I’ve started selling limited edition prints of it. Its my plan for happiness, for me, and for anyone else who wants inspiration and guidance to plan their life. So, who wants one…..?

  1. This is a most unusual work for you, but it is delightful in its colourful, almost Grandma Moses-like two-dimensionality, despite the dark edges of some of the symbols you employed.

    1. Hardin – is is a different style from the one’s you’re used to seeing from me, but as you know, I like to try different ways of painting different subjects. This one is simplistic, and fun, I think! And as you well know, I like to hide things within my paintings, and this is no different !
