The ease of being with old friends

This week has not gone as planned at all. I had presumed I would spend the majority of it painting the special painting that I had to leave off working on at the end of  last week. But instead someone else’s paperwork had to be sorted out and take priority over anything I wanted to do. It’s been a real faffy week of doing something for someone else that may or may not be something that they want doing in the long run. Either way, I had to prepare the information for them to make that decision.

So when an old friend asked if I wanted to meet him for lunch yesterday, the answer was a definite yes! We’ve known each other for 40 years,  and even though I’ve not seen him for almost a year, there is always an ease of being in his company as we ask after each others family, and he talks about his business and asks what artwork I’m currently working on. We talked about Game of Thrones, which we both totally love (dragons, swords, sorcery and naked women, what’s not to like!)  although he could remember characters and their relationship to each other far better than I could… You remember the guy who was the brother of the one who fought the duel for the Queen….. ? ER no…………….. which one was he again………….? His sister was the one who poisoned the young girl.. ! Did she? I don’t remember that bit at all…………. Yes, at the end, on the ship. What ship………….? Contemplating the shadows (2)

And we also had a shared interest in films, from the latest Marvel ones, to the next Star Wars one, war films with Brad Pitt in them, and Snatch – a favourite of both of us as we quoted various lines from it, going onto Jason Statham films, liking Vinnie Jones, him not liking Matt Damon films and me for the plus side of that one.

So at the end of the week, I have currently finished doing whatever I can do so far for the other person. And depending on what happens next week I am planning HOPEFULLY on working on the special painting that will be something good when its done. The subject matter is very simple, its the creation of it that will be the tricky part…
