Twelve unknowns into one

A couple of weeks ago I had a follow on email from a woman that related to a previous  email from someone else some time ago who I have previously done some work for (are you keeping up with this?)  asking if I could do some specific artwork for a client. The question was basically a question as to how much it would cost to do twelve illustrations for them. Although it was a short and simple question it was incredibly difficult to answer. Because its like answering how long is a piece of string…… I gave a lengthy answer by email to them that the price would depend on how many hours they wanted me to put into the artwork, and whether they required me to take photos to work from or if they would provide the photographs they want me to draw themselves. And of course without actually seeing the photos that they wanted me to draw as source material it made it even harder to judge the answer. I was working from a blank, rather than much specifically!

When the woman I had been communicating with by email rang this week I was delighted. We could now have a proper and full verbal conversation where we could both explain what was required, she as the client, and me as an artist, and now she realised what she has asking regarding this commission and why I couldn’t give her one specific answer regarding costs. It helps that the client will provide the photos that relate to what she wants doing, and after chatting with her for almost an hour I have a far clearer idea and more indepth knowledge of what it is she is aiming at. I knew that I could do the work, no problem, but we haven’t finalised a price for the work yet. I can adjust how many hours work will be required when I know what that will be. studio 1

And the artwork is something that is very close to one of my ideal jobs.

I am not explaining specifics for this work yet since it hasn’t been finalised with the client. But I am sure when its done I will be able to talk more about it…..
