Rolf Harris has been in the news a lot recently, for all the wrong reasons.
Up until then, his paintings were valuable assets that people wanted to own because they liked the man as an all round performer. He was a celebrity who could sing, and entertain, and paint. He did work for charity and had painted the portrait of the Queen. But now all of that has turned to dust because he has a disturbing and unacceptable darker side to his character.
So my questions are……
Has his artwork still got the same value attached to it?
Or has the value gone down, and if so, dramatically, or only a little?
Its still the same painting, painted by the same talented man.
Its just that the man has changed as far as we perceive him.
Has the artwork changed?
What is irritating is that people buy the paintings of ‘celebrities’ and ‘personalities’ often on the pretext of ‘I’ve got a picture by (name of famous actress)’ when you and I have spent decades honing our skills. So has Rolf Harris let down the people who bought his pictures or have they just been superficial…Serves ’em right…
